Dr. Timothy L. Brownlee
Professor and Chair of Philosophy
My research focuses on German Idealism and Social and Political Philosophy. My monograph, Recognition and the Self in Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit (Cambridge University Press, 2023), provides a novel account of the relationship between intersubjective recognition and selfhood in G. W. F. Hegel's early masterwork.
I hold a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Boston University, and a B.Hum. in Humanities from the College of Humanities at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario.
